Loose cast offs

Knit cast off

Knit the first stitch,
*Place the point of the left needle in the back of the stitch that you just knitted. Leave it there and knit into the next stitch on the left needle. When you put the right needle into the next stitch you will see a cross form. The right needle is in the bottom of the cross. Pull the new stitch that you are knitting through the bottom of the cross.* Repeat from *to*until all the stitches are cast off.

Purl cast off

Purl the first stitch.
*Place the tip of the left needle in the back of the stitch that you have just purled. Place the point of the right needle in the next stitch as if to purl and purl the two stitches together.* Repeat from *to*until all the stitches are cast off.

March Clackers meeting will be held at Denise’s house, starting at 7:30 pm on Tuesday March 24th.

We will go on with our lace projects and also try to begin the process of putting together the felted mats that we began last year. Bring books, anything knitters would be interested in seeing or hearing and your present project.

The Crazy Clackers have been busy. Here are some images of what they have been doing lately.

The Clackers knitting group met at Lin’s this month. Here are some pictures of our lace projects in progress. They are not washed and blocked of course and many will look very different when that happens.

We tried loose casting off and II have attached the instructions that I wrote for this. It can be done using the same needle that you are using for the body of the work It is most applicable for lace work and any edge that you would like to have some stretch. e.g. tops of socks, cuffs of sleeves, scarves knitted lengthwise.

The Clackers knitting group will be meeting at Lin’s house NOT Elly’s on Tuesday 24th February at 7:30 pm.

Next Meeting

The February Clackers Meeting will be held at Elly’s house on Tuesday February 23rd at 7:30 pm.  Her address is in the membership book.

As the January get together was cancelled due to snow we will have the same programme which is outlined below.

Feel free to bring show and tell of projects, books, gadgets etc. We are still doing our lace projects, so bring yours along or any other project if you are not knitting lace.  This time we will look at casting off loosely for lace, so if you want to try this please see if you can come with a square knitted in a simple lace or any other square so that we can try casting off. Casting off loosely is also useful for many other projects. As well as your usual needle bring a needle two or three sizes larger than the one that you are using to knit the square.  We will also begin to discuss lace borders. Everyone welcome.

FIBRES WEST

Penelope Fibre Arts of Surrey, B.C.  is pleased to announce “FIBRES WEST”, an event to take place March 20 and 21st, 2009 at the AgRec Building on the Abbotsford Exhibition Park Grounds. Come join us for two days of shopping, education and inspiration. Check out our website www.fibreswest.com and blog for all the details.  New vendors are being added all the time, so please check back regularly to get a full list of who will be attending.

Besides tempting you with fibre vendors there will be an Artisan’s Gallery to inspire, a Master Spinner, Knitter and Weaver booth where you can ask all your burning questions, Fibre Animals, demos, and much more.
